UPCOMING MEETUP IN TORONTO

The Community Reading Project is hosting a meetup for parents on February 21, 2017 at 7:00 PM, at our Bathurst St clinic.  You can learn more, RSVP, or even invite a friend by clicking here.

Hopefully this meeting will be the first of a series, giving parents and volunteers a chance to meet each other, ask questions, compare their experiences, share encouragement, and celebrate success stories.

We hope you attend.  February seems far away, but please mark into your schedule to come and join us.

UPGRADE TO THE SPELLING PROGRAM

‘SPELLING’ teaches how to read and spell multi-syllable words with Latin and Greek roots. The English spelling system looks complicated, but is remarkably consistent once you understand the rules.

We have posted a major upgrade to our free SPELLING program.  This program does not contain drills (like the free BLENDING program), but rather presents a set of lessons that you can ‘explore’ with your student.  We think both of you will find new and unexpected delights in the English writing system.

Find out more, and give it a try, by clicking here.  We’d love some feedback, let us know what you think on our Facebook page.

TALK TO YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT READING

Parents almost never talk to other parents about learning difficulties, and educators aren’t forthright when a student falls behind.  Many parents don’t realize their child is struggling, or know how to get help.  Some are in denial, others are too embarrassed.

A child won’t outgrow a reading deficit without help, especially a severe one.  But nothing will change until we start an open and honest discussion about reading failure and how to fix it.  PLEASE talk to your friends about reading.
